About
Meyda
Tiffany
Some
businesses begin with a plan while others just seem to develop from
personal interest, as in the case of Meyda Tiffany. Over
three
decades ago, Ida asked her husband Meyer (combined make Meyda) Cohen to
make a stained
glass window
for their kitchen so she no longer had to stare at the
neighbor’s
car collection all day long. This simple little task soon
developed into America’s oldest and leading manufacturer of stained
glass Tiffany style lamps and decorative lighting.
Meyda
Tiffany has developed a reputation for creating some of the highest
quality and most innovative light fixtures in the industry.
To
this end, the company purchased Quality Bent Glass Company which used
to create light fixtures like the infamous Coca-Cola chandeliers that
were then shipped to Tiffany Studios at the turn of the 20th
century. Meyda purchased the company and now uses its tools,
molds, and techniques to enhance the product line and give customers a
greater selection of high quality light fixtures.
Meyda
Tiffany
also purchased Mecco Art, a metal art studio and now uses its equipment
and manufacturing techniques to produce Old Forge line of custom
crafted, steel sculptured light fixtures.
Innovative
design is indeed a benchmark of the Meyda Tiffany company and many of
their designs are inspired by works from Louis Tiffany, Gustav Stickly,
Dirk Van Erp, Philip Handel, and Charles Mackintosh. Many
fixtures are hand-crafted using only the finest materials like
Copperfoil and reverse-painted glass, porcelain, jadestone, mica, and
other fine minerals.
Today, Meyda
Tiffany is still a
family-run business and features an impressive and ever-expanding
product line, including: table and floor lamps, pendants, chandelier
lighting,
semi-flush and flush mounted ceiling fixtures, wall sconces, fireplace
screens, windows, and even furniture. The Meyda Tiffany name
is
synonymous with quality and each fixture is destined to become a
treasured heirloom.
